It Took Me 67 Years to Find My Sister- My Story

It was 3 a.m. when Judy sat in her son’s kitchen, restless and lost in thoughts of May, her sister separated from her 67 years ago. Adopted by a loving family, Judy had a good life—but May’s absence left a hole she never stopped trying to fill. Over the decades, she searched: letters, records, DNA tests. Nothing. One night, her curious grandson Peter noticed her quiet obsession. “Try Facebook,” he suggested. Judy hesitated, but Peter offered to help.

They spent hours searching, but again came up empty—until Judy received a message from Dr. Smith, the doctor at the hospital where she and May were born. “I think we’ve found her,” the message read. With Peter by her side, Judy called Dr. Smith and learned May had recently come looking for her too. He had forwarded May’s contact information. Heart pounding, Judy opened her email—and there it was: an address. The next day, Judy and Peter drove to a small house filled with sunflowers—May’s favorite flower. Judy knocked. The door opened.

“Judy?” May whispered. They embraced, tears flowing. “I never stopped looking for you,” Judy said. May explained she had always known Judy was adopted and didn’t want to disrupt her life—until she heard about her husband’s death. That gave her the courage to reach out.

In the weeks that followed, the sisters became inseparable. Judy met May’s warm, welcoming family and was embraced as one of their own. Over dinners, laughter, and shared stories, the wounds of the past began to heal. Still, Judy wondered why they had been separated in the first place. May admitted she didn’t know either, but it no longer mattered. They had found each other—and that was what counted.

The sisters began planning a long-dreamed-of trip to Europe, making up for lost time. Judy’s life, once defined by absence and longing, was now full of love, laughter, and new memories. As they sat beneath the stars one evening, Judy turned to May. “I never thought I’d be this happy.” May smiled. “We’ve come a long way. And we still have so much ahead.”
