A Father’s Journey Through Loss and Justice

CBS has announced that The Late Show with Stephen Colbert will end in May 2026, wrapping up a successful 10-year run. Colbert shared the news with his audience during a July 17 taping, emphasizing that the show would not continue with a new host. “It’s not just the end of our show—it’s the end of The Late Show on CBS,” he said.

Despite leading late-night ratings for nine straight seasons, CBS said the decision was based on financial challenges, not show performance. Colbert thanked his 200-person staff and CBS, calling the network “great partners.”

Premiering in 2015, Colbert’s version of the show brought a political edge to late-night TV. His mix of commentary, interviews, and entertainment helped shape national conversations.

Fans have expressed shock online, given the show’s continued success. Colbert will stay involved at CBS through other projects, including producing After Midnight, a game show hosted by Taylor Tomlinson.
