He approached slowly, crouching down to Sofía’s level. “Hey there,” he said gently, his voice warm and reassuring. “What’s going on? Are you alright?”

Sofía bit her lip, unsure if she should trust this stranger. But the desperation in her heart won out. “My brothers,” she managed through her tears, “they’re sick… they need milk.”

Mr. Miller glanced at the babies, noting their feverish skin and weak cries. His heart went out to them. He’d grown up in a large family himself and knew the struggles of caring for young siblings. Without hesitation, he made a decision that would alter all their lives.
