Mrs. Carter’s stern expression softened. She looked at the boy with new eyes, as if seeing him for the first time. “I… I didn’t know,” she stammered, clearly moved by the story. Her face flushed with regret for her earlier harshness.
The principal resumed, “We often talk about acting with integrity and courage, but today, we have a living example of what that truly means. This young man put someone else’s life before his own convenience, before his own comfort. That is something to be celebrated, not scolded.”
The class erupted into applause, and the boy, overwhelmed and bashful, could only manage a shy smile. His classmates looked at him with admiration, some even patting his back or giving him thumbs up.
