In a horrifying moment that stunned a packed circus in Germany, a 27-year-old Spanish acrobat plunged about 16 feet from a trapeze, dying instantly as 100 spectators – including children – watched her hit the ground.
On the evening of Sept. 27, roughly 100 people filled the stands under the big top of Circus Paul Busch in Bautzen, Germany. According to its website, the traveling circus promises “enchanting elegance and daring acrobatics, surprising animal trainers, and hilarious clowns.”
Among the featured performers that day was 27-year-old Marina Barceló, a Spanish acrobat known for her breathtaking mid-air routines.
Just months before the accident, Barceló posted an image on Instagram showcasing one of her signature moves high above the ground. The caption read: “Up here I work best.”
It wasn’t just a poetic statement – it reflected her deep love for the trapeze. She had spent years mastering the craft, beginning her circus career in 2018 after transitioning from competitive gymnastics. Since then, she had performed across Europe, mesmerizing audiences in Germany, Spain, Andorra, and Poland.
