“I’m so sorry, Lisa,” Jack said, his voice thick with emotion. He kneeled beside her, taking one child’s tiny hand in his own. “I had no idea. I should have fought for you, for us. For them.”
Lisa nodded, a tear slipping down her cheek. “It’s been hard, Jack, but I managed. I never wanted to burden you. I just wanted to give them a chance.”
A resolve solidified within Jack. This was his chance to make amends, to correct the injustices of the past. “You and the twins will never have to struggle again,” he vowed. “I’ll make sure you have everything you need. You’re part of my family, Lisa.”
