“I was outside,” he said, a hint of anger simmering beneath the surface. “I heard everything.”
Harley turned her head slightly, her eyes welling with fresh tears. “I didn’t know you were here.”
“I came as soon as I heard about the surgery,” Daniel said, his expression softening. “I wanted to be here for you. I didn’t expect to walk in on… whatever that was.”
Harley let out a shuddering breath, trying to keep her emotions in check. “He’s… gone.”
Daniel nodded, his grip on her hand firm. “Good riddance. You don’t need someone like that in your life, Harley. You’re stronger than he ever gave you credit for.”
