As the sun dipped lower in the sky, casting long shadows across the square, Elena rose from the bench and adjusted the stroller. “I have to get them home,” she said. “There’s a nap schedule to keep.”

Miles stood as well, watching as she prepared to leave, the three lives bundled in warmth and love. “Take care, Elena,” he said, his voice filled with an earnest longing to bridge the gap between them.
