Prophecies Resurface After Election of New Pope Leo XIV

The world watched on May 8 as Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost was elected Pope Leo XIV, succeeding the late Pope Francis, who died on April 21. In a break from tradition, Leo delivered a multilingual address during his first mass.

Following the announcement, historical prophecies by Nostradamus and Saint Malachy resurfaced. In 1555, Nostradamus wrote of a “Roman of good age” following an old pope’s death, though details don’t precisely match Pope Leo.

Similarly, Saint Malachy’s 12th-century vision—recorded in the Prophecy of the Popes—warned the final pope would preside during great tribulations before the end of the world.

While both predictions are vague and debated, scholars urge caution, viewing them as symbolic rather than literal.
